What is an Architectural Photographer?
A professional photographer who takes pictures of buildings and other structures is known as an “architectural photographer.” Most of the time, they will have a deep understanding of perspective, composition, and lighting and be able to use these skills to take stunning photos of buildings that perfectly capture the spirit of their architecture. Numerous architectural photographers also operate as real estate photographers, taking pictures of the interiors and exteriors of houses that are for sale. Others capture advertising photographs for businesses who want to highlight their goods or services in their role as commercial photographer.

Why hire an Architectural Photographer?
An architectural photographer can show the beauty and size of a building in a way that is true to the design and looks good. They can also draw attention to details and parts of the building that might not be obvious from a distance. Whether you’re an architect, developer, or real estate agent, hiring an architectural photographer is an excellent way to promote your work. Their pictures can attract customers, investors, and even people who haven’t been interested in architecture before. Architectural photography can be used in portfolios, hardback books, websites, social media, annual reports, sales brochures, prints, wall art, billboards, and many other mediums. This type of commercial photography is the best way to showcase your building instantly with an eye-catching image.

What happens on an architectural commission
Architectural photography is a record of a building that a designer, an agent or a board can use. It is not a snapshot of the front door on the way to a meeting. Before the day we agree which elevations matter, whether the interior is included, and what time the light reaches the façade. The site FAQ describes the pre-shoot conversation we use for every commission. On the day the first job is often waiting: a car moved, a blind set, a reception left quiet for ten minutes.
Exteriors and interiors are different pictures and sometimes different hours. A glass building wants a time of day. A workplace interior wants the lights you actually use, not a floor stripped of every sign of work unless an empty room is the brief. Detail - a junction, a stair, a material - is photographed on purpose, not cropped from a wide view afterwards. Retouching is part of the architectural edit already described in the questions below. It is there to correct the distractions, not to invent a building you do not have.
What the files are for
You receive high-resolution images with a commercial usage licence for website, social and print. Fees follow a half-day or full-day pattern according to how much of the building is in the brief and how much editing it needs. New developments, commercial property and historic buildings are the three uses named in the introduction to this page. A development may need the exterior before handover and the show interior afterwards. A historic interior may need more time because the room cannot be rearranged.
The page below already names published architectural clients, including the National Trust, York Museums Trust, the University of Huddersfield and the University of Leeds. Those names are not repeated here as a new list, and they are not attached to a city they were not given. The portfolio to judge is the architecture gallery, with interiors in commercial interiors and residential interiors, and settings in commercial and residential exteriors.
Where the buildings are
The studio is in Huddersfield town centre. Leeds, Wakefield, Bradford, Halifax, Sheffield and Manchester each have a location page with a travel note: often about half an hour to Leeds and Wakefield, about 20 minutes to Halifax, often under half an hour to Bradford, and typically under an hour to Sheffield, and under an hour to Manchester with travel included for Greater Manchester. None of those towns adds a travel fee on the terms already published. Guides to Leeds buildings, Manchester’s newer architecture and other Yorkshire buildings are background reading, not a shot list we will turn up and follow.
If the job is the people inside the building rather than the building, use the event photographer or the commercial photographer. If it is both, say so. A single day can hold an exterior and a conference only when both have been allowed for. Contact the studio with the address and the hour the site is quietest.
